On Thursday, April 27, 2017, a banquet was held at Middlesex County College to honor a student from every high school in the county that has been of service to their community. The evening was sponsored by the Middlesex County Guidance Council. This year’s “Caring Award” recipient from Bishop Ahr is Gabriella Abreu.

Gabriela Abreu has consistently led her classmates in service hours since her freshman year, and currently has more service hours than any other senior. Gabriela loves to work with children and animals. She has volunteered as a camp counselor since her sophomore year, where she is responsible for approximately 25 children.

Gabriela also spends many hours volunteering at the Husky House which is an adoption center for dogs. She is a member of the Domestic Violence Awareness Coalition, and has participated in domestic violence walks since sixth grade. Gabriela has already earned her silver award in her Girl Scout troop, and is currently working on her gold award. For this award she will be preparing Chemo Care Packages for cancer patients at the Rutgers Cancer Institute in New Brunswick.

She is also a member of our Christian Social Action Club, a school-sponsored organization that assists members of the community with various service projects and activities. Gabriela is a responsible and dedicated young lady who is truly deserving of “The Caring Award."
