Christmas Tree Decorating Contest Helps Families in Need

Senior Class Officers Joe Mollica, Tara Genovese, and Samantha Fellin, with the help of Campus Minister Sister Cynthia, continued the BGA tradition of a Christmas tree decorating contest. Each Grade level was given two 6-foot tall artificial trees to decorate any way they chose. Class officers, Student Council, and class moderators gathered up support and donations from their classes and used the money to buy themed ornaments, ribbons, and other decorations to bring their tree designs to life.
The moderators and class officers then decorated the trees before the Christmas Cotillion. The remarkably-themed trees were then displayed in the school’s main lobby. During the night of Cotillion, teachers and chaperones were asked to vote on their favorites.
The winning themed tree was a “Peace Around the World” theme, decorated by juniors who were led by Moderator Mr. TJ Reilly and President Sarah Decker. Second place was awarded to the “Frosty the Snowman” theme by the freshmen who were led by Moderator Mr. Matt Kondracki. Winning trees will be awarded points towards Battle of the Classes held during Catholic Schools Week. So that the families who would be the recipients of these trees could have as much fun decorating them as we did, the students then took all the trees down and placed them back in boxes along with the ornaments.
Ms. Byrne and Deacon Rich, accompanied by Senior Class Officers, took the trees to St James Church in Woodbridge. The trees were welcomed with open arms and we were assured that needy families would be blessed with a tree and decorations this season because of our project. The BGA community was thanked for the generous donation and encouraged to continue this project. The contest was an awesome way to spread the REAL meaning of Christmas!
