Students Pack Over 400 Lunches for TASK
Posted on 05/14/2018
On Tuesday, May 8, 38 Bishop Ahr students, Sister Cynthia, Mr. John Roche, Mr. Kevin Mc Carthy, Mr. Harry Ziegler, Ms. Liz Savner, Mrs. Karen Wilton, Ms. Grace Alexander, Mrs. Lynne Braine, Mrs. Dorothy Machovic, Mr. John Tocci, Mrs. Diane Fucci, Ms. Lilly Acab, Mr. Pat Gaston and Father Keith Cervine put together 400 bagged lunches for the CSAC “CHANGE” the World Project! Into each bag of lunch was put a sandwich, a napkin, 2 snack items and a bottle of water and lots of love.

Seniors from Sister Cynthia’s Service Option participants wrote notes on each bag. The decorations and messages were awesome!  The recipients of the bag were in for a real treat. On Wednesday, May 9th the lunches were delivered to TASK (Trenton Area Soup Kitchen, Trenton, NJ) by the BGA maintenance staff.

Before beginning the project, the group prayed asking God’s blessings on those who would receive the lunch bags and also on us as we made the sandwiches.

All of the bread, the snacks, water, peanut butter and jelly, bags and napkins were purchased with money collected from the BGA students on a Dress Down day for the poor. An alumnus donated the peanut butter and jelly for the project. This was once again a total BGA community project – everyone helped – the maintenance staff, faculty, staff, students, alumni and alumni parents!  Thank you to all who helped our “Change” the world project to provide lunches for the poor.

This past year three senior members of CSAC took charge of the Lunch Packing project. They were the ones who planned and organized each lunch packing. This is what two of them would like to share:

Kerriann Howley ’18 – “Christian Social Actions Club's lunch packing activity is one of my favorite service opportunities at BGA! It is such a fun and simple way to help the poor in our community. Ever since my first lunch packing, I knew I wanted to continue volunteering and I'm so glad I was able to be a part of such an amazing activity. After seeing the impact, we have made on the people receiving these lunches, I'm inspired to continue participating in similar activities in the future!”

Thaomi Nguyen ’18 – “Since freshman year, I have participated in various CSAC activities, with Lunch Packing being one of them. For the past four years, this opportunity has allowed me to give back to the community at TASK in a fun and organized way. It's been such an amazing experience both volunteering for and leading the Lunch Packing events. I hope that others at BGA plan to help out in the future!”
