Sports Statistics and Management is a
senior elective being offered for the first time at BGA. Originally the
vision of Mr. Fiore, the course is aimed at teaching students the
skills needed to operate a sports business while also looking at
statistics used in all sports.
During class this
year, the students drafted their own fantasy football teams along with
four other teachers. Their leagues compete each week and they calculate
and compile the statistics. The students' first quarter project involved
analyzing their teams' statistics and using them to improve their
teams.
Building on what they learned in the first
quarter, students will build their own sports franchise, which includes
the creation a team logo, building and designing a 3D stadium, working
on a team website, finances, and more. This innovative project will help
students learn the skills necessary to run a successful sports
business.
